COVID-19 hit us hard and fast, and it is an understatement to say that as country and globally, we were not prepared! Now medical and frontline workers are scrambling to find enough personal protective equipment just to be able to to their jobs. Some of them are even working with no protection at all!
Sew for Humanity has heard the call and has been frantically sewing masks, relying solely upon generous local donations of fabric (cotton or cotton/polyester), thread, pins, good functional sewing machines, buttons and 1/4″ or 1/2″ elastic. WE HAVE ALREADY SEWN AND GIVEN AWAY 300 MASKS FOR FREE to police officers, nurses, midwives, kids, seniors, grocery store workers, and community members at risk!
The demand has been overwhelming and continues to grow everyday! Medical workers are now asking for gowns, caps, ear savers, etc. If you are local in the Niagara/Hamilton area and can donate any of the above materials, it would be so appreciated – we can pick it up or you can safely drop it off! If you can sew and want to donate your time – please join our facebook group.
We know times are tough for some people but we also have the option of giving a giving a cash donation if you want, and are to help. Every dollar counts – we are just trying to help as many people as we can! Your donation will go to purchasing supplies and shipping.
Uncontrollable fires devestated Australia in 2019 as much of its wildlife was either killed, injured, or orphaned. Hundreds of thousands of animals (koala bears, kangaroos, bats, and others) were orphaned or displaced from their habitats. Sew for Humanity made over 150 pouches, beds, and nests for injured wildlife to recover. The pouches were shipped to Australia and hand delivered to the Australian Capital Territory Wildlife Centre in February 2020.
